Well, THAT was a dismal FAILURE

 My nervousness about the new doctor was rightly founded so it seems.  I drove nearly 3 hours to get to the office I was ASSURED was fragrance free, "except maybe a few of our clients". 

I walked in and had to put my mask on, thank Heaven I had gone back to the house for it!  THEN they told me the doctor was running an hour behind... he had several walk-ins... (nice to know I should have just walked in),

When I mentioned that they had told me on the phone that their office was FRAGRANCE FREE, all the receptionist would do was REFER ME to the office manager.   ??

When I went into the washroom, the shelf was FILLED with LYSOL SPRAY, AIR SPRAY, GERM CLEANSER - ALL FRAGRANCED.  The liquid soap was FRAGRANCED....

SOME FRAGRANCE FREE HEALTH CARE OFFICE, RIGHT??

I talked to the office manager and it was like talking to all the others... "Well, I don't know who told you that....  I tried to talk to the cleaners...... I'll have to talk to the staff...."  WHAT THE HECK!!!  YOU KNEW I WAS COMING.... DIDN'T YOU BELIEVE ME??!!!

I told the receptionist I would wait in my car and they could call me when he was ready.

THEN, the office manager comes out and sits in my car.  I had to put my mask on IN MY CAR!!... THEN she tells me that it actually takes THREEE OR FOUR VISITS for this doctor.  The first one is a general exam and urine test, the second a blood test... the third we TALK about the blood test...

I told them in a letter WEEKS before I made the appointment all about my MCS.  All about being in the hospital and the fact that I ONLY, at this time, needed a diagnosis of my arthritis and help with my MCS. 

I told the office manager that Dr. Kraucak listed on the
website that he dealt with MCS.  THAT IS THE ONLY REASON I CALLED THIS OFFICE....

SO TELL ME THIS....

IF A DOCTOR KNOWS WHAT MCS IS... does that mean that he ACTUALLY KNOWS WHAT IT IS?????

Perhaps it only means that he has READ THE medical BOOKS AND IS LOOKING FOR ANOTHER WAY TO DRAW MORE PATIENTS INTO HIS OFFICE, ie, MORE MONEY!!! 

LOOKS TO ME like the latter is the case.  IF he knew exactly WHAT MCS ACTUALLY IS.... THERE IS NO WAY THAT HIS OFFICE WOULDN'T ALREADY HAVE A SCENT AND FRAGRANCE FREE POLICY instead of the half an hour of excuses that I was given.  IT MOST CERTAINLY WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN FILLED WITH TOXIC CHEMICALS AND SPRAYS!

THIS DOCTOR SHOULD NOT BE ON THE AAEM WEBSITE AS A REFERRAL FOR MCS PATIENTS.  On the AAEM website it states his last meeting was 1998 and he was 21 years in Environmental Medicine.  THAT is why I called his office.  Go figure.

WHAT A WASTE OF TIME, FUEL AND MONEY ON MY PART only to find out that this doctor does over THREE OR FOUR APPOINTMENTS what most do in one AND can't even offer a simple FRAGRANCE FREE environment for his patients.

I give up.  WHEN DID DOCTORS STOP CARING ABOUT THE PATIENTS?

I can't keep spending money running around trying to find some doctor to help me when they just don't give a rats behind.  Too bad I could 't find one right out of medical school who had a relative with severe MCS... wouldn't THAT be a coup for us all?!!

I find myself NERVOUS today...

I haven't had a Primary Care  Physician in over 10 years.  No kidding.  When I hurt myself, like anyone, I go to the Emergency Care where I usually end up being in as much distress from the fragrances everyone there is wearing, than the bleeding all over I am usually doing to get there in the first place.

Last year I ripped my hand off with a rope, this year I managed to have my intestinal tract fail somewhat with colitis and ileitis (we suspect my MCS is a partial cause).  Both times I was distressed by the staff wearing perfumes and NOT listening to my warnings about my SEVERE MCS. 

Multiple Chemical Sensitivities have TOTALLY changed the way my life is lead and the most horrible part of it all is not having a SAFE HEALTH CARE system to walk into.  YOU have NO IDEA how frightening it is to walk into ANYWHERE and get SICK.... IMMEDIATELY, DESPERATELY SICK!!!

So, today after searching for weeks for a Primary, I am heading south of Ocala for my first appointment with a doctor supposedly familiar with MCS.  I can only PRAY that his office is as they claim, fragrance free.

Now you understand the nervous frame of mind that is closing in on me.

We will see... I would hate to drive the two and a half hours only to find out the office is just as toxic to me as any of the doctors in my own area who seem to be COMPLETELY ignorant of the toxins they are allowing in their health care facilities ALL THE TIME.

BE SCENT AND FRAGRANCE FREE  --  WHY WOULD YOU WEAR FRAGRANCE WHEN YOU ARE GOING TO A DOCTOR!!  WHY would you poison every other person in that building by wearing TOXINS to the appointments!!??

This past Saturday, my husband drove me into town.  It was mid afternoon and high on my list of when to "never leave the house because there are too many people out and about". 

He parked 9 spaces up from the front of the Walmart, for the first time since I have known him.  We
ALWAYS park WAY OUT so there aren't too many vehicles parked close by. 

I waited in the truck because I knew it wouldn't be healthy to walk into the store during the afternoon rush.  I keep an eye on everything going on around me so I can grab my mask if someone gets too close.  He left the windows down as it was nice out and went into the store.  The thought crossed my mind to move the truck further out, but then again, how would he find it when he came back out, right??

I was good until just before my husband came back.  I was wafted by a horrible perfume... looked up and out the windows to pin point the culprit.  There, three cars up from ours was a lady walking around her car, she REEKED... I started to cough... my eyes started watering... my head started to pound... HOW CAN ALL THIS HAPPEN IN A MATTER OF MOMENTS!!???? 

You know, people look at me funny, disbelieve me, outright make fun of me and think I am over reacting.... JUST ONCE I would like them to live in my shoes....

That three minutes of exposure to this womans' perfume, 3 cars away in a parking lot... with the breeze blowing it directly into my vehicle left me with stinging eyes... I coughed all that afternoon, couldn't sleep well, coughed all the next day (coughing up little grey globby things from my lungs), the headache wouldn't go away and here it is, Monday and I still have it... I didn't sleep well again last night... at least I haven't been coughing again... Maybe two days was long enough??

SO, two or three minutes of exposure to a strong REEKING perfume and I am on my second and a half day of suffering for it.  I wonder what each exposure is doing to my already damaged intestinal tract and wonder how long it will be before I have to start treatment for damaged lungs or another attack of COLITIS???

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE.. consider being a FRIEND, even to someone you may not know... rather than using fragranced products or wearing FRAGRANCE when you leave your house!!

Honest to Goodness, I don't understand why the population is so ignorant of what chemical toxins and those especially in FRAGRANCE are doing to their bodies.  In this day and age, with everything becoming MAN MADE, people are so ignorant to the consequences and then WONDER WHY they become sick, WHY they get cancer, WHY their bodies are breaking down at record speed.  
HOW MANY CHILDREN born with defects could be PREVENTED by living a chemical and FRAGRANCE FREE life?

EWG's “Dirty Dozen” list of hormone-disrupting chemicals

EWG and the Keep A Breast Foundation today released a guide to educate consumers about some of the most problematic hormone-altering chemicals that people are routinely exposed to. EWG parntered with KAB to develop the Dirty Dozen list of endocrine disruptors to highlight the prevalence of these toxic chemicals, how they affect our health and simple ways to avoid them.

In this article, they state that fresh food rather than canned is better (of course), but what of those that now suffer from intestinal and digestive disease due to MCS or other toxic reactions within our bodies?  Colitis and other intestinal diseases (Crohns) have to have all of our food overly processed BEFORE they go into our bodies.  My doctor and diets on websites specifically state, "DO NOT EAT ANY FRESH FRUIT, VEGETABLES OR UNDERDONE MEATS".  In other words WHAT do we eat if the cans are lined with BPA.  The following is copied from the EWG website,

Some may say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but do you really want a chemical used in plastics imitating the sex hormone estrogen in your body? No! Unfortunately, this synthetic hormone can trick the body into thinking it’s the real thing – and the results aren’t pretty. BPA has been linked to everything from breast and others cancers to reproductive problems, obesity, early puberty and heart disease, and according to government tests, 93 percent of Americans have BPA in their bodies!

How to avoid it? Go fresh instead of canned – many food cans are lined with BPA – or research which companies don’t use BPA or similar chemicals in their products. Say no to receipts, since thermal paper is often coated with BPA. And avoid plastics marked with a “PC,” for polycarbonate, or recycling label #7.
